De aanleg van de zuidelijke ringweg eind jaren '70 heeft het Oude Winschoterdiep afgesneden van bestaande vaarroutes. Ter weerszijden ervan dobberen tegenwoordig woonboten. Enkele ervan verdienen deze kwalificatie niet. Desondanks gedoogt Stad deze verrommeling aan haar kades.
The construction of the Groningen's southern ring road in the late 70s cut the historical Oude Winschoterdiep off from other waterways. Nowadays houseboats bob about on either side of the canal. Perhaps calling them this is stretching the definition, but they are accepted by the city as part of the quayside mélange.
