Aan het Broerplein staat het in neo-renaissancestijl gebouwde Academiegebouw van de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Het verrees in 1909 op de fundamenten van de voorganger, dat in 1906 tijdens schilderswerkzaamheden tot de grond toe afbrandde. De wijze waarop het Academiegebouw tegenwoordig 's avonds wordt verlicht lijkt een verwijzing naar die brand.
On Broerplein stands the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen Academy, built in 1909 in the neo-renaissance style on the foundations of the former building that was burnt to the ground in 1906 during repainting. Looking at the illumination of the building nowadays, you could almost think it's a reference to the 1906 fire.
