Het Hoofdstation van Groningen is misschien wel het mooiste station van Nederland. Het vrijwel symmetrische gebouw van architect Isaac Gosschalk werd in 1896 opgeleverd. Het prijkt op de rijksmonumentenlijst. Het heeft stijlelementen uit de renaissance en gotiek. De hal en het overige interieur zijn subtiel en rijk versierd met zuiltjes, glas-in-lood, rozetten, iconische tegeltableaus en heel bijzondere plafonds van papier-mâché.
Perhaps the Groningen Central Station is Holland's most beautiful station. The almost symmetrical building, completed in 1896, was designed by architect Isaac Gosschalk. Nowadays it is part of the National Trust. It reveals design features derived from the Renaissance and the Gothic age. The hall and the other interior rooms are finely and richly decorated with pillars, leaded windows, rosettes, iconic tiled walls and ceilings -which are extremely rare - created with papier-mâché.
